What is Virtual Production?

Virtual Production is the next evolution of green screen and in-studio VFX. 3D environments, camera tracking and large LED volumes are combined to create perspective-accurate background views in real time.

Clients, talent, directors and crew no longer have to guess what the final shot will look like. With in-camera VFX, creative teams can collaborate on the final image during production.

Virtual sets provide realistic lighting and flexibility to modify your environment beyond what is possible on location or in reality.

Benefits of Virtual Production

No location changes - reducing travel-related expenses.

Streamline production days - saving cost on crew and equipment.

Controlled shooting environment - change the time of day, weather, sound and lighting with 3D virtual environments.

See the full picture - real-time customization and collaboration between 3D artists, directors, and clients.

How Virtual Production Works

Virtual production, or in-camera VFX, uses 3D positional tracking to map a physical camera in the studio to a virtual camera in a real-time game engine.

A 3D virtual environment is displayed on a large LED volume where perspective, movement, and point of view are accurate through the lens of the camera - creating the illusion of a physical space. Real actors and props are placed in front of the LED volume to achieve a fully composited image during capture.
